About

CNRS researcher

Institut des Sciences Moléculaires (ISM) — UMR 5255 CNRS / Université de Bordeaux / Bordeaux INP

Senior Researcher at CNRS since 2001 at ISM. PhD at the University of Nantes under the supervision of P. Batail, followed by two postdoctoral positions in the United States from 1998 to 2000 (at Carnegie Mellon University under the supervision of Prof. R. McCullough, and at Texas A&M University under the supervision of Prof. D. Bergbreiter). Lecturer (ATER) in 2000–2001 at the University of Bordeaux 1 at LCOO. Accreditation to Supervise Research (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) in 2011.

Research interest

Functionalization nanoparticles, core-shell MNPs (γ-Fe₂O₃) with a polymer or silica shell, or TiO2. Covalent grafting using functional linear or dendritic coupling agents, with applications in catalysis, biocatalysis, biotechnology (biosensors or bio-separation), and photocatalysis.

We develop the functionalization of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs, γ-Fe₂O₃) or TiO2 NP, which have the unique advantage of being easily recycled through simple magnetic decantation. These MNPs have been used for:

  • Magnetic recycling of supported [Pd] catalysts MNPs in Heck and Suzuki reactions

  • Dendritic effect and specific bio-immobilization through thiol/maleimide reactions

  • Biosensor: For the selective detection/separation of cesium and thallium

  • Biocatalyst: Oriented enzyme immobilization

  • Luminescent functional TiO₂ nanoparticles for therapeutic and diagnostic applications

  • Magnetic and fluorescent silica supraparticles (SiO₂) for the optical detection of surface abrasion

  • Simultaneous detection/capture of sugars and glycosylated compounds using fluorogenic MNPs functionalized with boronic acids

  • Antimicrobial hybrid materials (MNPs – photocatalysts – lignin) as an alternative for combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

Expertise in the covalent chemical modification of surfaces using linear and dendritic functional organic coupling agents.
