Keywords : multistep organic synthesis, functionalization of (nano)materials and surfaces, fluorescent molecules and materials, chemistry-biology.
The immobilization of biomolecules on solid substrates using Self-Assembled Monolayers (SAMs) attracts a lot of attention in the very active research field of bio-nanotechnologies and advanced functional materials, for many applications such as biosensors, cell adhesion and tissue engineering, medical implants. Projects currently in progress focus on the multi-step organic synthesis of new dual-end functional silanes. They will be used for the elaboration of new SAMs on silica surfaces thanks to strong hydrogen bonds interactions. These smart nanofilms will enable the selective ligation of biomolecules and concomitantly the direct follow-up of the process. Targeted biological applications are related to the challenging field of cell proliferation and regenerative medicine. Research projects are highly interdisciplinary, being at the interface between organic chemistry, (nano)materials and biology.
